Welcome to the Charm City Circulator

There's a new bus in town! And the winning name, by popular vote, is Charm City Circulator.

Starting in late summer 2009, these hybrid buses will travel three new routes downtown, arriving every ten minutes, seven days a week.

I thought we would have these buses running by now. What's up?

I saw an update on this in Mayor Dixon's weekly enewsletter: apparently the economic downturn is affecting the start date of our new bus system...

Here's the latest from Mayor Dixon's email newsletter:

A brand-new transportation system is coming to the downtown area January 11, 2009. To better connect Baltimore residents, workers, businesses, and visitors, twenty-one hybrid EcoSaver IV buses will circulate on three downtown routes, seven days a week-with no fare or boarding fee. The circulator routes will run south to north from the Inner Harbor Visitor Center to Penn Station, and east to west from Harbor East to the B&O Railroad Museum. With buses arriving approximately every ten minutes, the circulator system is planned to connect with Amtrak, MARC, Light Rail, Metro Subway, MTA bus lines, two water connectors (Maritime Park to Tide Point and Canton Waterfront Park to Tide Point), and parking garages located on the fringes of downtown. I have ridden the Circulator a few times since Monday. I think its a great service and I can't wait until the rest of the routes are running.
